Rajapalayam

The Rajapalayam is a muscular dog with long limbs that gives it a sense of balance. They have a slim body and a graceful head with an elongated muzzle and a sharp forehead. Their jaw closes in a perfect scissor bite, which is ideal for a war dog. Under their short, smooth coats, they have loose skin with no wrinkles or dewlap. Their dark brown eyes and soft ears hang on the sides of their heads. Because of the thinness of the end of their slightly curled tail, it appears to be boney. This dog is available in a variety of colours, including solid brown, solid black, and spotted, but white dogs are the most popular and well-known. Originally bred to hunt boar, they were also used as guard dogs and in Indian wars. The Rajapalayam were royal dogs. The Rajapalayam dogs got their name because they originated in Rajapalayam, a town in Southern India. The Poligar Hound is another name for the Rajapalayam, which was given to it because of the Poligar clans. This breed was said to have been owned by Poligar clans in ancient Southern India. Because of how they were trained, they gained a reputation for being ferocious, aggressive, and dangerous. Poligar clans were notorious for robbing people while on the move, and their dogs were frequently used as attack dogs. Some breeders of this dog are said to reject puppies of different colours because they want all Rajapalayams to be the same colour. These dogs drool a lot and tend to sleep all day.

The Rajapalayam dog requires a lot of exercise, and a lot of it! They were bred to hunt and fight, so they are naturally energetic.
You don't want to see a grumpy Rajapalayam who isn't getting enough exercise. They, like most Indian dog breeds,
require at least two hours of exercise per day, with enough mental and physical stimulation to expend their energy. Otherwise,
they may develop destructive characteristics and things will get ugly.

While the Rajapalayam is known for being extremely loyal to their owner, they are usually wary of strangers.
This breed makes an excellent guard dog. It is critical to socialise them as puppies. They should not be trusted with small pets like cats or small rodents because they have strong hunting instincts.

These dogs require food that is appropriate for their lifestyle. Active dogs require more calories than inactive dogs.
A male adult dog requires approximately 1650 calories per day. A female dog requires approximately 1400 calories per day.
Obesity is a concern for these dogs. When feeding these dogs, keep in mind their age and weight. To match their active lifestyle, Rajapalayam dogs require high-protein food. Every day, breeders feed their dogs two homemade meals.
These dogs' homemade food consists of chicken that has been boiled with rice and then mixed with yoghurt.

The best part about India dogs is that they don't require much grooming. With a short and manageable coat, the majority of them are self-sufficient.
Brushing once a week and bathing only when necessary are all that is required for Rajapalayam grooming. Except for regular nail clipping and ear and anal cleaning, there are no professional requirements. Aside from that, they are intelligent enough to keep themselves tidy.
