Kurdish Kangal

The Kangal Dog is a large, powerful, heavy-boned dog whose size and proportions have naturally developed as a result of its continued use as a predator guardian in Turkey.
With drop ears, the head is large and moderately wide. The Kangal dog is calm, self-assured, powerful, and protective.
A well-socialized Kangal Dog is friendly with visitors and especially children, despite their aloofness towards strangers.
They must never be timid or ruthless. A well-trained Kangal is sensitive and aware of changing circumstances,

responding to threats with judicious warnings and, if necessary, courageous action.
They make excellent livestock and human guardians, but they may not be suitable for inexperienced dog owners due to the Kangal's independent intelligence,

which makes it a difficult teenager.

These massive watchdogs can complete their tasks quickly, whether it's guarding their property or patrolling the livestock.
Family dogs will require jogs and socialisation in order to receive adequate mental and physical exercise.

If not properly trained, a Turkish dog can become difficult to manage.

Because they are the strongest dogs, training with food, praise, or friendly pats is more effective.
Instruct the dog to only eat from the owner's hands and not from strangers to avoid becoming compliant.

Kangal Dog is first and foremost a stock guardian dog, with a temperament that is typical of such dogs: alert,

territorial, and defensive of the domestic animals or human family with whom it has bonded.

The Kangal Dog has the strength, speed, and bravery to intercept and confront threats to the flocks of sheep and goats it protects in both Turkey and the New World.
Kangal Dogs prefer to intimidate predators, but if necessary, they will take a physical stand and even attack.
Kangal Dogs are naturally wary of strange dogs, but they are not aggressive toward humans.
They are reserved around strangers but loyal and affectionate around family.
The goal of training this dog is to make him a pack leader.

The Kangal Dog should thrive on high-quality dog food, whether purchased commercially or prepared at home with your veterinarian's supervision and approval.

Any diet should be age-appropriate for the dog (puppy, adult, or senior). Some dogs are prone to becoming overweight,
so keep an eye on your dog's calorie intake and weight level. Treats can be a valuable training aid, but giving too many can lead to obesity.
